Let’s get real for a quick second: I took my skin for granted for a long time. Until about two or three years ago I didn’t even really think about skincare. I assumed that skincare was for middle aged women who wanted to look like they were still in their twenties so I ignored the topic altogether. That being said, I’d like to think I’ve come a long way since then.

Though I still would not consider myself an expert on the topic of skincare, I am somewhat well versed when it comes to being lazy about skincare. This is in no way meant to be self deprecating. I’m busy. Being a self-employed, work from home, sometimes blogging, all the times cleaning, dog mom, wife, sister, daughter, caretaker, on call semi-psychologist to many is a full time and then some job. When it comes to skincare I need items that are going to do multiple jobs and do them quickly and efficiently…just like me 🙂

The Lazy Girl’s Guide To Skincare

That’s where The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Skincare comes in to save the day. These are real products that are not going to break the bank that I use in my everyday routine. If I have time for a daily routine, so do you! I promise that a few minutes each day for your skin is all it takes to see real results. Even me, Monday’s child all fair of face and acne free, has seen results from this Lazy Girls Guide to Skincare.

You heard that right. I was never an acne prone child or teen. Probably part of the reason I never paid attention to my skin is because it was alarmingly mediocre. Let’s get one thing straight: I was never some drop dead gorgeous model type who woke up looking like a magazine ad but I did alright! I was able to ignore my skin because it never gave me much trouble. When I started wearing more makeup and really getting interested in different makeup looks I noticed that my skin was uneven and my pores were in serious need of some assistance.

At first I tried to fix the problem by sporadically moisturizing with cheap and heavy creams. It did not go well. For the first time in my life I had issues with my skin. So not fair considering all the years I skated by with nice skin, now I was trying to help my skin and I was being punished! The problem was the products, not my skin. After many many moons I’ve finally perfected the perfectly lazy way to keep skin healthy, glowing, and blemish free (seriously, it’s possible) and now I’m going to share those tips and tricks with you…no problem, I love to share.

Step 1: Cleanse

This should be obvious but just in case it is not, you need to keep your skin clean. If I had access to the products I use now when I was in college I could have saved TONS of water. There were days when I got in the shower just because my face needed a good scrubbing. Now I have LimeLight and their Make Off wipes. Not only do these suckers remove every trace of makeup from my face after a long day, they’re all natural, smell great, and they don’t burn my skin.

I love that these wipes come in single packs and pop up pouches. When I got to the gym I know I can get my face clean immediately after a workout without worrying about packing a bunch of products to do a cleansing routine. They are huge which means I only need one to do my entire face and they work as a cleansing product. No need to wash afterwards, no sticky residue or slimy leftovers. Someday’s I go right from the wipe into the rest of my Lazy Girl’s Guide to Skincare!

Step 2: Exfoliate

I don’t exfoliate everyday. Sometimes I do a few days in a row if I have the time but I don’t do exfoliate everyday and the title of Lazy Girls Guide to Skincare would lead me to believe you don’t have time for that everyday either. When I do exfoliate I mean business. I love Rodan & Fields Microdermabrasion Paste. It smells fantastic, it’s a dense salt scrub, it is packed with vitamin c which is great for healing and rejuvenation, AND it’s expensive as all hell. Wah wah. I know. I got some a gift and I’m in love with it. It’s my one big splurge for my skincare routine because it last forever. The tiniest bit goes a really long way and I’m a few months into a single container. For me, it’s worth it for the results I see and feel on a daily basis.

If you are not willing to splurge, don’t worry, I have other options! If you do want to splurge you can check out some great prices on the Microdermabrasion paste here. For those of you looking for a more economical way to exfoliate I have you covered! Not to toot the same LimeLight horn again but they have a great option that will lead us into our next step very nicely and neatly so see step 3 for more info!

Step 3: Moisturize

Moisture is what keeps your skin plump, rosy, glowing, all those great things we love. It can help even skin tone and in the long run it will help prevent wrinkles and blemishes. Between exfoliating and moisturizing I’ve seen amazing results in the texture and tone of my skin over the past year or so. One of the great multi-tasking products I use is the LimeLight Skin Polish Mask. It’s a little bit exfoliator and a lot a bit moisturizing. My skin drinks this stuff up like there is no tomorrow AND it smells like the most delicious lemon cookie that was ever baked up on this earth.

It’s another all natural product that is safe and effective. It makes my skin so soft and smooth my makeup applies like a dream. I wear this mask once or twice a week while I’m doing the vacuuming and the smell makes me think I’m in some kind of delicious bakery while I’m actually sucking up dog hair and mud from my husbands work boots. It’s all about living the good life.

Step 4: Serums

Yeah yeah yeah, I know. This is the Lazy Girl’s Guide to Skincare how can there be serums involved. Trust me. Serums are where it is AT. I always thought people who used serums were suckers who just wanted to pay more for something they were already getting with a good moisturizer. Side note: If you are looking for a good moisturizer you can also check out this post. When I was experimenting with products I realized that I really love the Algenist Genius line and you can read more about that in the post I linked up there. Anywho, I eventually realized (totally by accident) that a serum can actually help do some of the heavy lifting when it comes to repair and resurfacing of skin.

Algenist has a couple of lines with some great serums. I have used with great success: the Genius White Emulsion, the Multi-Perfecting Pore Refining Serum, and one other one that is evading me at the moment. It might be mentioned in the post linked for the moisturizer! I don’t remember to be completely honest…Right now I’m using the Multi Perfecting Pore Refining Serum because they had it at TJ Maxx for $12 when I was there last. I stocked up and now I’m all set with a serum that has done some major WORK to my gaping pores. It makes my moisturizer and my makeup go on so much smoother. Use a serum for a few days with  your routine and tell me if you don’t notice a big difference…I didn’t believe it was possible but hey, even I’ve figured it out!

The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Skincare Routine

This is what I do twice per day. Once in the morning after my workout and once before bed at night. I know I went into detail above but those things are not in the right order so I want to show you what I do here in an easy to follow list!

Morning:
Cleanse (which usually includes exfoliation)
Serum
Moisturizer
Dab of eye cream if I’m feeling really overzealous

Evening:
Cleanse
Serum
Moisturizer
Always with the eye cream (recent addition because it was part of a kit and I think it’s worth a try for the dark circles under my eyes.)

And then I lay my sleepy little head down on my pillow cases and go to sleep! I’ll be back soon with some tips and tricks for making skincare even easier. Practical advice so that your products can do their jobs easier and more effectively. I’m always happy to chat brands and options with you so feel free to find me on social media or leave a comment below!
